Prayer for Anxiety

To one degree or another, all of us are effected by anxiety. Anxiety differs from fear, in that fear always has a focus e.g. "I'm frightened of flying". Anxiety is a general stressed state of mind, an unease that is usually without a specific focus. Anxiety effects our whole being - not just our minds, and can make us physically unwell. The apostle Paul has some very simple words to say about it. "Do not be anxious about anything". Instead, we are exhorted to "pray about everything" (Phil 4:6-7, CEV), to give all our stress and concerns to God, and then trust in Him.

Gathered together on this page are a number of resources to help deal with anxiety and stress. There's a modern prayer about anxiety, a video on receiving God's peace, and bible verses on worry and God's grace.

Prayer for Anxiety

Heavenly Father,

When I feel crushed by my own worries,
Lift my mind and help me to see the truth.

When fear grips me tight and I feel I cannot move,
Free my heart and help me to take things one step at a time.

When I can't express the turmoil inside,
Calm me with Your quiet words of love.

I choose to trust in You, each day, each hour, each moment of my life.
I know deep down that I can cast these cares on You, that you have taken these anxious thoughts and by dying on the cross, You have set me free.

I choose to trust in You, each day, each hour, each moment of my life.
I know deep down that I live in Your grace, forgiven, restored by Your sacrifice, You have set me free.

Amen.

Prayer for Quiet Confidence

O God of peace,
who hast taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved,
in quietness and in confidence shall be our strength:
By the might of thy Spirit lift us,
we pray thee, to thy presence,
where we may be still and know that thou art God;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Freedom From Anxiety

In this short film here at youtube Barry Adams discusses how it is possible to live a life free from anxiety. He concludes the film with a prayer to receive God's peace.

Here is a brief summary of the video:-

We worry because we don't understand how much God values us. Once we understand how much our Father in heaven values us, anxiety will loose it's grip on our lives.

In Matthew 11:28-30 we find that God promises us that we can find rest for our souls. God wants us to rest, to have a light load. In addition, the writer of Hebrews exhorts us to be diligent in entering into rest (Hebrews 4:9-11). We need to take a deep rest, and receive God's eternal peace.

Barry Adams concludes by praying a simple prayer, accompanied by tranquil images and gentle music. It is a prayer asking for God's peace that passes all understanding (Phillipians 4:6-7). A prayer giving every concern of our lives to God. A prayer to know God as our Dad who takes these concerns. A prayer to know the mind of Christ and a prayer that God's peace would guide us for the rest of our lives.

Prayer for anxiety

Jesus,
You are with me.

I share each anxious thought with You.
I am not alone,
You understand.
Here I will shelter,
Safe in Your love,
Held by Your grace,
Freed by Your truth.

Thank you that You are with me.

Bible verses to help with anxiety

Below are featured some useful scriptures to help with anxious thoughts and feelings:-

In God we have peace

In peace I will lie down and sleep,
for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.

Psalm 4:8, (NLT)

The peace of Christ transcends all understanding

Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.

Philippians 4:6-7, CEV)
