Adoration Prayers

Short prayer of adoration to God

Adoration is one of the most natural things that we do as humans. Witness the hoards of fans at football matches, cheering and chanting their heroes forwards. Or the flocks of paparazzi and TV reporters around the latest Hollywood celebrity, all desperately trying to get that shot or interview. It seems as though humanity is obsessed with adoring things.

However, when we take a moment to adore God, a transformation happens. We are no longer held captive by the concerns of this life. Our hearts are lifted to that timeless place where God is. Here we can stay for a while, gazing at the beauty of His majesty, our spirits renewed by the power of His presence.

Gathered together on this page are a number of good Christian prayers of adoration, including a Eucharist adoration prayer, the Catholic prayer of St Faustina and a short evening Anglican worship prayer. There's also a great meditation video to watch, and examples of bible verses about adoration, suitable for opening a church service with.

Prayer of Adoration to God

Almighty God, how wonderful you are.
Creation cries out in awe of your power,
The universe shines with your glory and greatness.
Almighty Lord, how majestic you are.
Each atom and molecule carry a tiny part of your plan,
Every microbe speaks of your breathtaking beauty.
Almighty Father, how awesome you are.
The mountain ranges reflect your heights,
And the gentle valleys your mercy.
Almighty One, how creative you are.
Each tree and flower are filled with your wonder and bounty,
Each life resounds with intricacy and miracles.
I will lift my eyes to you, my wonderful, majestic, awesome God.

Eucharist Adoration Prayer

(a prayer of worship and adoration before receiving communion)

O Holy One,
As we come together to remember your great sacrifice,
Thank you that we can experience deep in our hearts the incredible nature of your grace.
As we partake in this precious communion,
Thank you that we unite with all the followers of Christ across the Earth and all that have gone before us.
As we contemplate the great price you paid for our sins,
Come and draw us together, to embrace and forgive one another.
As we confess our humanity, our fragility and our need of your Spirit,
Help us as we endeavour to be your hands and feet to the poor and the oppressed.
As we go from here and carry your gospel of peace,
Fill us with your Spirit deep within our hearts.

As we lift our eyes to worship you,
Refill us with hope as we glimpse again the promise of Heaven.

Amen.

Adoration Prayer

by Saint Faustina

(In April 2000, Sister Mary Faustina became the first saint of the 21st Century. She is known in the Catholic faith as the apostle of divine mercy)

I adore You, Lord and Creator, hidden in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I adore You for all the works of Your hands, that reveal to me so much wisdom, goodness and mercy, O Lord. You have spread so much beauty over the earth and it tells me about Your beauty, even though these beautiful things are but a faint reflection of You, incomprehensible Beauty. And although You have hidden Yourself and concealed Your beauty, my eye, enlightened by faith, reaches You and my soul recognizes its Creator, its Highest Good, and my heart is completely immersed in prayer of adoration.

My Lord and Creator, Your goodness encourages me to converse with You. Your mercy abolishes the chasm which separates the Creator from the creature. To converse with You, O Lord, is the delight of my heart. In You I find everything that my heart could desire. Here, Your light illumines my mind, enabling it to know You more and more deeply. Here streams of graces flow down upon my heart. Here my soul draws eternal life. O my Lord and Creator, You alone, beyond all these gifts, give Your own self to me and unite Yourself intimately with Your miserable creature.

O Christ, let my greatest delight be to see You loved and Your praise and glory proclaimed, especially the honor of Your mercy. O Christ, let me glorify Your goodness and mercy to the last moment of my life, with every drop of my blood and every beat of my heart. Would that I be transformed into a hymn of adoration of You. When I find myself on my deathbed, may the last beat of my heart be a loving hymn glorifying Your unfathomable mercy.

Amen.

Anglican Early Evening Devotional Prayer
O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.

Bible verses about adoration

Featured below are some popular references in the scriptures about adoration. It's possible to use these as a starting point for personal meditation, prayer and reflection.

Adoration Prayer by King David

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.

1 Chronicles 29:11-12, (NLT)

Isaiah's Vision

In the year that king Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each one had six wings. With two he covered his face. With two he covered his feet. With two he flew. One called to another, and said, "Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts! The whole earth is full of his glory!"

Isaiah 6:1-3, (NHEB)
