Salvation Prayer

Featured on this page is a short explanation of what it means to be Christian, with a simple prayer to ask God into your life, and what the ABC of salvation is. Once you have read this you may want to pray this simple prayer of salvation and begin life’s greatest adventure!

What does it mean to become a Christian?

Who is a Christian? Is it someone who goes to church, or does good things, or believes in God? Essentially none of these things in themselves make you a follower of Christ.

Christians are those who have decided to give their lives to Christ.

So to become a Christian is an act of surrender. We offer all that we have been (all our sins and failures) - all that we are (all that we possess and hold),  and all that we will be (our ambitions and destiny), and give them all over to God.

For some this decision can happen slowly over many years, for others it can happen very quickly - rather like it did for the Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus.

Christians sometimes talk about the ABC of Salvation. This is a way of remembering the elements that are part of coming to faith in God:-

The ABC of salvation

A - Admit

Admit that you are a sinner. To "sin" means to do something wrong. Here we bring to mind things that we have knowingly done wrong in our lives, as well as the times when we should have done good but failed to do so.

B - Believe

Believe in Jesus and put your trust in Him.
Christ's death on a cross two thousand years ago was an act of selfless love. He took on himself the whole sins of humanity, making it possible for all people to encounter God. Believe that Christ has died for you, for all your sins.

C - Confess

Confess Christ Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. This means acknowledging that he is your boss, your master. A kind, generous and loving master. What he says goes.

A Simple Salvation Prayer

Lord, I admit that I have done things that are wrong. Thank you that you have died to take away all my sins. Please forgive me. I receive your forgiveness now and declare that I want to live for you for the rest of my life. Come and fill my life with your Holy Spirit. I now depend completely on you.

Amen.

If you have prayed this prayer, tell somebody else as soon as possible. Don't wait more than 24 hours! Part of coming to faith in God is sharing your experience with others.

Asking God to save you is part of a journey of faith. There is much to learn! Jesus wants you to be his disciple, which means to follow him, and learn from him:-

Be open to hear him speak everyday. This page gives guidance on how God speaks to us.

Listen! I am standing and knocking at your door. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and we will eat together.
